Trevor R.

Education: University of Chicago, BA in Chemistry, UC Berkeley, PHD in Physical Chemistry
Career: Senior Metrologist in Genomics
Trevor hails from the Pacific Northwest, where he grew up an hour north of Seattle on Camano Island. A serious student, Trevor graduated valedictorian of his high school before bracing himself for the cold to earn an undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of Chicago. At UChicago, Trevor was a student researcher in the Butler lab, and he investigated chemical reaction dynamics using state-of-the-art laser spectroscopy instrumentation. Outside of the lab, Trevor spent his time with Moneythink, a student organization that taught basic financial literacy skills to charter high schools on Chicago's south side. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Trevor then went on to earn his PhD in physical chemistry at UC Berkeley where he was a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow for his studies in solar energy materials. He also received an Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor award for teaching Statistical Mechanics and Thermodynamics. Trevor currently channels his passion for mentoring by tutoring students, specializing in Physics and Chemistry. Drawing on his diverse experiences working with students across various levels and settings, he focuses on helping them connect new ideas to what they already understand, using their current strength as a foundation. Trevor is now a metrology engineer in the genomics industry, where he develops measurement systems and analysis pipelines to drive innovation in the advent of next generation DNA Sequencing products. Naturally, his work lends itself to making connections between students' science courses and exciting real-world applications. Outside of work, Trevor enjoys playing volleyball and pickleball with friends, exploring San Diego restaurants, and watching anime.
Lindsay S.

Education: Brown University, BA Modern Culture & Media, Harvard University Graduate School of Design, MA Design Studies

Miranda H.

Education: UC Berkeley, BS in Mechanical Engineering
Career: Mechanical Design Engineer in Semiconductors
Miranda, originally from Philadelphia, made a big move to California to attend UC Berkeley, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. Her passion for engineering extended far beyond her college classes; as an active member of Berkeley Engineers and Mentors (BEAM), she created and led engaging weekly curricula to introduce elementary school students in Berkeley to fun, hands-on mechanical engineering projects. Through BEAM, Miranda discovered her love for teaching and inspiring young minds in STEM. With over four years of private tutoring experience, Miranda specializes in AP Physics, particularly AP Physics 1, which has the lowest passing rates among AP exams. She takes pride in her ability to simplify complex concepts and guide her students toward a deeper understanding, ultimately helping them excel on the AP exam. A key part of her tutoring strategy is the use of carefully crafted practice questions that closely resemble the style and rigor of AP exams, building students' familiarity with test formats and common pitfalls. Miranda is a full-time mechanical engineer in the semiconductor industry, where she contributes to advancements that drive modern technology. Her role keeps her at the forefront of engineering innovation, which she brings into her tutoring to inspire students with real-world applications of physics and engineering. Outside of work, Miranda enjoys playing volleyball, sewing, and spending time with her two cats and dog.
Bill K.

Education: Stanford University, BS in Computer Science
Career: Software Product Manager in Energy
Bill, a native of Orange County, learned how to code when he was 15 when he took a life changing AP Computer Science course in high school. He deepened his knowledge beyond the classroom setting by starting his high school’s robotics team and doing software research projects for the US Navy. This passion led him to attend Stanford University where he earned his degree in Computer Science. Bill has 2 years of experience teaching the Stanford University computer science intro curriculum as a teacher’s assistant, along with over 2 years of private tutoring. Most impressively, Bill was an inaugural volunteer instructor of Code in Place during the COVID pandemic, a virtual introduction to Computer Science through Stanford University for people all around the world. Bill approaches teaching with the goal of making his students better problem solvers for all subjects and standardized tests. He’s noticed that students often struggle because they don’t understand the underlying concepts. He teaches his students how to approach learning the underlying concepts so they can apply that same thought process to different subjects.
